So glad I got this one! I really enjoyed Bitterleaf’s nightingale oolong and I liked the description on this one, so I thought I’d try it. The wet leaves smell so much like salted caramel ice cream it’s crazy! There’s even a hint of cotton candy. The tea itself also has a bit of that salted caramel ice cream smell. It’s a very tasty tea, in my opinion there are notes of flowers and caramel. The texture is really nice too, it definitely has a thick mouthfeel. I brewed it grandpa style, so I’m definitely missing some of the flavors/stuff you get from gongfu but my impression is that this tea is really versatile and would do well brewed any way. This oolong definitely reminds me of ice cream, I love it! I’ll be excited to experiment by brewing it gong fu / in a gaiwan.

I brewed this gongfu style using 1 gram/15 ml. The nose is very creamy, sweet, and floral on both the dry and wet leaves. The taste is intense, greeting me with a sharp bitterness that is countered by buttery, baked good-like notes and a sort of bright, tangy acidity, it also has a slight savory, salty note that arises in the aftertaste. It has a slippery richness to it, a bit drying at times.

Unsurprisingly, a creamy sweet oolong. You’re left in no doubt of what this tea is promising.

I keep playing with different ratios of leaf to water, as I prefer a lighter touch with this offering. The stronger you brew, the more intense cream you get. Basically, if you want a tea that does exactly what it says it does, I don’t think you can get much more unequivocal than Double Scoop!

Happy to have snagged this one up before it was sold out. I could already tell that this tea would be a burst of flavour from the aroma of the dry leaves. I have a collection of teas from bitterleaf (many unopened), and yet this one has called out to me on several occasions. It is unforgettable and strangely does get better with age. Intense, creamy and bitter from the get-go. I still cannot decide whether I like this more or the duck sh*t dancong haha. 10/10!
