All Day Breakfast 2022 Lancang Dianhong Black Tea

$3.00$89.00

Description

Our first pressed Shaihong processed (sun baked) black teas, this tea is an example of why it’s good to keep an open mind.

Right out of the gate, things start off with light caramel and fruity notes in the early infusions, as more intense sweetness build in the 2nd and 3rd steeps. The body and mouthfeel is also quite impressive for a black tea in this price range, while a noticeable huigan (returning sweetness) lingers in the mouth and throat. As the session goes on, some floral notes start to emerge as well.

This tea was a bit of an unexpected, but pleasant surprise. Suitable for any time of day, this tea is also suitable for any weather, offering lots of warmth for the winter, and a refreshing crispness to suit summer. And while we’re skeptical about ageing Dianhongs beyond 2 years, this may have the potential to take things further – only time will tell.

Nominee for the best comforting tea 2022.

//Texture: Tingling on the tip of the tongue, excited cheeks, medium texture, overall mouth coating, heat
//Taste : Freshly pressed orange juice, warm raisin bread, cinnamon, zesty with a sweet touch
//Body sensation: Comforting heat in the mouth, long lasting effect, eyes awake, gentle energy, smiling cheeks

I finally got round to test it – and it is sold out??? How can I get hold of a new “round”. Floral, smooth, mild as in not astringent or bitter, orange blossom honey – one to get hooked on. “Harvesting” it like a PuEr increases the fun.

We honestly didn’t expect that either There’s always the 2023 version though!

This, alongside Bull Noir, really demonstrates Bitterleaf’s excellent taste in dianhong. This tea may honestly be one of my favourite red teas of all time, Beautiful balance of fruit on the nose and the tongue, vanilla-like smoothness better than any you could get from a blended whisky, it was the perfect tea to gift to friends and family for a winter treat. I think I bought the last cake (sorry sannemo) and really regret only buying three cakes instead of a whole tong, or several.

Delicious, strong and fragrant, both gongfu and western brewing. As a gongfu tea, you take a tour through tannins, rich fruits, and floral smells, with a bitter finish that becomes a bit sweeter as you go.
Western-style, one charge of tea gives two delightful pots of rich, red-coloured liquor that leave you warm and buzzing. A great tea to serve to people used to strong “black” tea-bag brews, it has all the positives and none of the problems.

It really does go good with a western breakfast.

This tea has light sweetness and fruity notes that intensify with later steeps. After a while, floral notes would emerge along with slight bitterness but with stronger sugary notes that linger for a bit. Such a pleasant and comforting tea for any time of the day!
