Silver & Gold 2022 Spring Yashi Xiang Dancong Oolong

$13.00$195.00

Description

Our Dancong selection wouldn’t be complete without including a premium Yashi Xiang, aka “Duckshit fragrance”. This milky wulong is made from high altitude, old bush material from the origin region of Ping Kang Tou (坪抗头), home of the mother tree.

We highly recommend this tea as a companion to our Easy Breezy Yashi. This tea offers a similar characteristic fragrance, but with added depth of flavour, a thick mouthfeel and a milky quality that comes with in higher end Dancong. Having undergone traditional charcoal roasting, this tea has a smooth texture that rolls in the mouth.

Fortunately “Duckshit fragrance” is just a name. In reality, this tea boasts a highly fragrant and floral quality. The story goes that this name came about when the owner of the original tea bushes attempted to thwart potential thieves from trying to steal the bushes, claiming that ducks relieved themselves in the area around the bushes and that the tea was no good.

That name has stuck and to this day the varietal is one of the most common ones in the market, so this tactic clearly didn’t work.

Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin.

We recommend brewing this tea using Chaozhou style gongfu brewing. Here’s how it’s done:

Wonderful! This tea won’t last long in my cupboard
//Smell : Intense flowers notes, charcoal roast, wet rock, kiwi incing, sauce made from butter/cream, cooked vegetables
//Texture: Tingling on the tip of the tongue, quick cheeks coating, warming and creamy
//Taste : Aromatic, Freshness, pineapple spiciness, pasta sauce, charcoal roast
//Body sensation: Warm smiling cheeks, calm body with inner energy

Seriously like drinking perfume (in the best way possible). Flowers, flowers, flowers, and honey! This is a tea I would recommend for a proper “sit down” session where you can give your full attention. This tea is also quite delicate so make sure that you come into it with a clear palate.

Great representation of ya shi here, with the kinds of fruity and floral qualities that are in-line with other high-end offerings you might find elsewhere. Where this one pivots away from the rest is in the body and mouthfeel; it leans into a smoothness reminiscent of butter and heavy cream, with a milky and silky texture that brings out a bright minerality instead of a heavy viscosity.

The firing feels a pinch light for what I seek out, but the differences between what this is and what I like are just a matter of personal preference. If you’ve been around the block with ya shi before this one is definitely worth checking out – I’m glad I did.

The cha qi is invigorating. I can feel the authenticity of these leaves as I work my way through the session. It’s got an inspiring and uplifting quality to it that leaves me feeling focused.
