Description
One of our premium offerings for this year, this light roasted Rougui Dancong comes from high altitude (1200m) old bushes in Wudong mountain Liziping village. Along with being charcoal roasted, these factors all contribute to creating a tea that embodies a deep fragrance, sweet aftertaste and thick mouthfeel.
The name “Rougui” means cinnamon, and while there is an undeniable cinnamon note, we mostly notice this in terms of a delicate spiciness that balances out the tea. The dominant flavour is a pastry-like quality with a nice honey sweetness. We recommend smelling the wet leaves between brews to fully take in the flavour and anticipate what’s ahead.
Although we try very hard not to be influenced by the varietal name, it’s hard to deny the dessert like qualities this tea offers, which in turn make it hard to deny drinking it.
This is a tea we strongly recommend for those with significant experience both drinking and brewing Dancong with consistent and good results.
This is a premium Dancong and therefore comes at more of a premium price. If you are still getting acquainted with the various Dancong varietals or still getting the hang of brewing them properly (it can be tricky), we recommend starting out with something like our Milanxiang. This will allow you to develop your taste and hone your skills without spending more on teas that may not show their full potential.
Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin.
$0.96-1.07/gram
We recommend brewing this tea using Chaozhou style gongfu brewing. Here’s how it’s done:

Surprisingly full-bodied with sweet notes after swallowing, I felt like soaking myself in the bakery house with tea party with this tea alone.
Slight dryness building up in the long run triggers me to keep steeping and drinking and it’s energy is awakening and having much fun. A very special tea for my special occasion definitely.

Surprisingly sweet, with a very thick mouthfeel. A very unique dancong, warm, roasty, spicy, and yet still quite floral. Shockingly low amount of bitterness for a dancong too.

My personal favourite of this year’s Bitterleaf oolong selection. A deep and substantial offering that provides good texture and a wide range of flavour. I get spices, dark fruits, nuttiness, and even some citrus rind in a way I expect more from puerh.
Better than average number of brews, an excellent finish, nice and thick mouthfeel…It’s a great tea in all respects.

The best dancong from the 2021 collection! It’s easy to brew (smooth even when you oversteep it), it’s got a nice thickness for a dancong, the texture is hard to describe but unique (almost oily and jiggly in the cup), the fragrance is light but it gets better and better with each infusion. Feels more full-bodied than most if not all dancongs I’ve tried without getting bitter at all. It’s quite drying but not in a bad way – remains juicy throughout the whole session, so it never gets unpleasant. It has some dark fruits vibe that I usually notice with rou gui yancha, but the cassia (cinnammon) light airy note is much more detectable here than it is in a deep roasted yancha. The finish is intense and sweet. The aftertaste is sweet and spicy (almost peppery). So rich and complex dancong! 5/5

//Smell : Zesty while sweet tropical fruits. The smell is strong enough to escape from the closed lid, orange flower blossom, pastry dough, floral, cooked fruits, spiced
//Texture: Tingling under the tongue (and later all over the mouth), happy tasting buds, light mouth coating (more in the cheeks)
//Taste: Orange flower blossom pastries, cinnamon and similar spices, fruit sweetness, gentle astringency, honey
//Body sensation: Present moment, serenity, calm even if the heartbeat has increased
Pinnacle tea, worth tasting it!
