Alter Ego 2022 Mansa Raw Puer Huangpian

$3.50$98.00

Description

Made from huangpian (yellow leaf) gushu material from Mansa, this tea offers a smooth and sweet experience that contains much of the fragrance and texture of its fresh growth counterpart, but at a fraction of the price.

This high value tea is excellent for those seeking out a less aggressive and uncomplicated raw puer. While less complex up front, it still produces a nice texture in the mouth and chaqi/energy.

Our experience with this tea since 2016 has also shown that in addition to daily drinking, it has strong storage potential, becoming sweeter as the years go on.

$0.11/gram

If you’re familiar with our previous releases of this tea, then you know that each year features one (or two) of our own cat-bosses on the wrapper. This year’s may look unfamiliar, but she is simply the newest member of the board. A former street-cat, Kiwi became the newest member of our family (under the care of grandma) in late 2021.

In the same vein as our other huangpian teas for 2022, $5 from the sale of each cake will be donated locally to help provide surgeries, shots, and rehome stray cats in Kunming. As there is a lack of established organizations for domesticated animal welfare here, we will be continuing to work directly with a clinic that offers discounted services in order to help our feline friends in need. If you want to do more to help, then we encourage you to reach out to your local SPCA or animal shelter.

Easy-sipping sweetness and an expressive minerality feature in this refreshing huangpian. One to enjoy when I’m busy with other stuff and still want a tasty sheng that doesn’t need my full attention. The sweet finish lasts a surprisingly long time.

It brews fine both hot and cold, so it’s versatile too.

I drank a tong of ’21 and while I liked it a lot, there was a slight acidic/sour note common in old tree huang pian that wasn’t entirely enjoyable. This year seems to have less of that which I like. I saved a chunk of the last ’21 cake and tried it a week ago. My impression was that even a year of Western storage had improved the tea by smoothing out the edges, including the acidity. I would not hesitate to get a tong of this for immediate drinking or storage.

My session with this tea started off with a very subtle zest before building into tinges of lemon and gentle sweetness. The dry leaf is heavy on citrus, and when met with water that profile warms into key lime pie and lemon cookies. There’s some noticeable astringency behind a soft, dense body, and an energizing cha qi. Stimulating huangpian sipping.

Works fine when drink hot and maybe even better when cold brewed.
//Smell : floral, zesty, hay, mineral, herbaceous, dumpling, wet rock
//Texture: Thick texture, tingling on the first half of the tongue, oily, long lasting, teeth coating
//Taste : Herbaceous, dry field freshly cut-out, mineral, perfumed
//Body sensation: inner activity/digestion, heat production, feel motivated to do task outside, accelerated heartbeat

At ~11c/g this tea’s value crushes. I agree 100% with every element of the product description. This is an A+ daily drinker.

Perfect for those who enjoy lemony sweets and baked goods. Carries a zesty, citrusy punch for quite a few steeps before finally mellowing out into a sweet, vegetal broth. Thick texture that coats the mouth, teeth, and throat. Gives a good burst of energy to the body without being rushy.
