Description

Using the same material as 2017, this quality, yet budget-friendly raw puer comes from a village in the Xibanshan region of Mengku. This tea demonstrates a unique fragrance and pleasant vegetal flavour without being overwhelming, as well as a noticeable uplifting energy.

This tea is all around solid, with plenty of flavour, excellent processing and an affordable price, making it a difficult candidate to beat as a daily drinker.

A decent daily drinker with a nice taste and mouthfeel, though tapers out rather fast. Has a standard Mengku taste, and the material and processing seem high quality. If it lasted a little longer I would’ve given it 5 stars.

Very nice Mengku tea for a great price, especially for the quality material and (especially the) processing . This is super solid, without being too wild, so it can definitely work as a daily drinker, but also might make for a good introduction to the uninitiated pu’er drinker (though it is not boring at all, in fact its quite full of character). The “Core” and “Year of the *” series of cakes are no-brainers for me each year.

Nice powerful sheng. Very vegetal with some nice floral notes too. Astringency was a bit strong for my liking, but not too bad. Really can’t beat the price on this one, though I’m not a huge fan of most Mengku area teas, so I didn’t spring on a cake.

I don’t think I would spring for a cake of this tea, but that is not at all to say it isn’t a good value for the quality! I would love to see how a budget Lincang tea like this would evolve over a decade or so . Lincang character seems to vary pretty widely from vegetal to sugar caney high notes to intense minerality and all of the above :~P I’m a huge fan of Lincang tea, but when it is in the steamed collards phase of its life cycle I’m less into that character. I sample these cakes every year and should maybe get a bigger chunk to rest for a few years, after all this is only a year old :%~)

Early infusions are quite green and vegetal in taste with a good amount of sweetness and a light melon flavour. There is a slight bitterness and it’s fairly astringent – not enough to put me off, but may be worth noting. Later infusions go to a darker fruit taste of apricot and raisin.
