This tea was pressed to celebrate the transition to Year of the Ox. Made from the same single origin Kunlu shan material as Oh Deer!, this fall picking retains many of the same standout qualities, but at a fraction of the price.
Just as with the spring version of this tea, there is a nice balance of flavour and mouthfeel, with an early vegetal flavour and pleasant bitterness (kuwei), which is followed up by a sweet and lasting huigan. This makes for a very dynamic tea that is well suited for drinking now or storing for down the road.

This tea haves one of the most notable bitter-sweet balance I have ever tasted in a tea. I’m tasting it fresh so the usual green notes are present, but I can sense that when aged, this will taste even better, so I’m glad I ordered five of it. The energy feels rushy, but nothing overwhelming, feels good. Great bang for your buck Kunlu material.

Pleasantly fragrant; slightly perfumy. Sweet in taste with a nice bitterness (if brought out) and medium texture. To me nothing really stood out though. But it was a very nice daily drinker for me.

Wet leaf smell after the rinse is subdued and sweetish. Overall feel is reminiscent of what I’ve come to expect from teas like Oh Deer! and Over the rainbow: hard to pin down but it’s a bit gamey, foresty and wild. It has a prominent pineapple note in the aftertaste. Very textured and a bit sharp in the mouth after swallowing, mild but pleasant astringency combined with typical autumn sweetness. Mild, balanced bitterness. At this price point this is seems like a good choice for people who like clean teas with a natural feel. Overall a harmonious and easy to drink tea if you don’t mind the mouthfeel. Last a few more steeps than my other autumn pickings. As for the body feel, I tried this after another strong tea and can’t really separate the two. All I can say is that I feel great!

The first steep of this tea reminds me of fresh ponderosa lemonade. It has a bit of enjoyable bitterness, a heavy citrus note, and sweetness that pushes through. Some green astringency, savory notes and minerality sneak in as the session continues, though the sweetness and light bitterness remain as a backing. This tea is outstanding to me on a personal level – it reminds me of my grandmother’s lemon tree and the fresh lemonade she would make from it when I was a kid. Really great stuff.

This tea is really great and will give you several yummy extended tea sessions. Taste? Spiced hay, herbaceous, humid summer afternoon vegetation, leather bag, wet rocks! What’s the mouth finish you said? The sensation in the mouth is dry but fresh. Weirdly, even if my cheek are completely coated, I got almost no saliva at all. You need to keep drinking to hydrate your mouth.. and here the wheel goes haha

This tea starts quite verdant and punchy with a nice huigan but quickly loses steam and mellows into a gentle, sweet cup. Gives a good jumpstart of energy without being overwhelming. A great tea if you don’t have a lot of focus to spare and are in need of a pick-me-up.
