Description
With this year’s material comprising of a mixed picking of young and older arbour trees, this tea offers up a full flavour and pleasant mouth feel. Kunlu is known for having wild and semi-wild trees, as well as a wide range of varietals that can be found, giving different pickings and productions their own unique style.
Just as with the previous year, this tea starts out with a mineral-sweet flavour, some gentle bitterness and a slight vegetal quality that continues to build with each brew. Both the fragrance and sweetness are long lasting and distinct, accompanied by a nice body feeling.

This is so good! I tried it without any resting right after unboxing the package and it was a ball part of the Treat Yourself set. I absolutely love it. It has some young Kunlu strength and bitterness but the texture is so soft and velvety. I love how sweet it is and the complex beany fragrance reminds me of some high mountain Longfengxia oolong from Taiwan but with more mouthfeel and anything you’d want from a tea. I think this is cheap enough to be classified as a daily drinker – a really good daily drinker. It has some jittery energy which is good if you want to be energized. The aftertaste is quite sweet and the fragrance don’t leave your mouth for half an hour. I’m a huge fan of 1g:15ml ratio, but I think this one is very good for lower tea ratio – something like 1g:20ml.

This was my favorite from the 2021 lineup (excluding the top shelf cakes, and the OG Naka was a close second). I have a hard time pinning it down, I suggest sampling it yourself if you like clean, natural and easy to drink young sheng. The leaves just speak to me, the tea has some quality to it that just makes me feel good. This is an example of BLTs propensity for unblended sheng gone very right.

This tea is so good especially for the price! A great way to try some kunlu tea. It’s got vegetal it’s got florals it’s got everything really. And the cha qi is out of this world!

This tea has SO MUCH going on and it’s a powerhouse of intense flavour and mouthfeel.
I wasn’t going to leave a review, but…My 9-year-old sheng-loving son has been sharing a session of this tea with me and he just said, “Oh, I wish I could drink this tea all day long!”

I wouldn’t guess that this tea is the successor to the 2020 version when comparing the wet leaves. The 2021 warm buttery notes make a marked contrast with the 2020 floral/herbaceous/mineral notes. By chance, the two tea meet when comparing the liquor taste: fresh, vegetal, wet rock, river sand. I like to proceed to horizontal tasting when it’s possible. I can happily say that I prefer this year’s version.
