Description
One of our favourite named mountains, Kunlu is most well-known for its wild (and wild-ish) old tree teas. Although this tea uses more modest arbour material, it manages to do a fine job keeping up with the big trees. There is a full flavour and texture, along with a deceptive strength that will sneak up on you.
This tea starts out as a doe-eyed vegetal and mineral-sweet flavour, grazing in your mouth, but develops into a significantly thicker and richer flavour with each brew. As the flavour coats the mouth and follows you around, this tea will leave you wondering why it’s not double the price.
This tea could easily be filed under the “buy one for now, one for storage” category, if not a tong.
Picking period: Pre-April 9
$0.29/gram
Please note: The dragon balls for this tea have been sold out, so samples will still be offered in the same size, but broken from the cake.
All of our samples for spring 2020 are in dragon ball form. While these balls will perform the same as the cake, they can be slightly trickier to brew. Here’s how we do it:

Starts off with characteristic raw pu-er bitter taste, but its a unique feeling that somehow magically makes me more alert after that. Very creamy in texture, the amazing transformation happens gradually. The taste gets sweeter, a little of rock, malty sugar kind. And it can last many steeps, very worth it.
Pro-tip -> First 3-4 steeps must be very quick (5-8 seconds) to reduce the bitterness and tea will turn into an amazing experience subsequently!

//Eyes dry leaf
Superb cake composed with super long leaves. The loose compression make it pretty easy to detach what you are craving for
//Nose dry leaf
Not your usual raw smell (hay). Very intriguing. Maybe some minerality, some sweet notes and a fun vegetal side
//Nose wet leaf
Delicate, herbaceous and mineral with a kiss of butter
//Eyes liquor
Blond liquor with brighter edges
//Mouth texture
Medium texture at the very first brew! Nice and smooth along the throat. Teeth coating
//Mouth taste
Souple leather, wet clothes drying outside, steamed vegetables
//Nose Empty Cup
River sand, wet rock
//Body sensation
Pleasant cycles of dry mouth followed by salivation
//Brewing notes
1 gram per 20 mL of water at 95C
Brew 1 : 13 seconds
Brew 2 : +3 seconds
//Overall impression
Texture becomes more and more thick throughout the session! Loving it!

Lovely astringency, feels powerful. Minerality that reminds me of an yancha. Thick, aromatic and consistent flavor through all the session.
