Description

This year we spent a considerable amount of time in Jingmai, allowing us to source an exceptional tea that’s become our 2017 In Bloom. Pressed from mixed picking (huncai/混采), this tea contains material from both younger and old trees growing in the same garden. This mixed picking allows for extra depth of flavour and a true-to-the-land taste, while keeping the price well below pure gushu tea.

Jingmai is often noted for its orchid fragrance, which this tea delivers in spades. The fragrance endures and lasts well after you‘ve taken a sip, accompanied by a nice huigan. Ultimately, it embodies everything we hope to find in a Jingmai raw.

This is my go-to for a fruit and floral-forward Jingmai tea. Its aromatically beautiful, with a rich, full flavor and thick body. The little bit of age has added texture to this tea, but the aroma is still potent. It is what I would consider a “drink-now” pu’er, personally, but I’m also very curious how long-term aging will treat this pretty tea.

Wow, the feeling of this tea is unique! The basics: the cake is loosely pressed of whole leaves. The aroma is predominantly seaweed-like with a sharp astringency; there’s some floral notes, but given the name, I was expecting more. The flavor of a 10 second brew with 95C water is surprisingly sweet and mellow up front, but with a back-of-the-throat tannic astringency. Quite thick mouthfeel. But the real thing that sets this apart for me is the extent of the cha qi feeling. My mouth was cooled and my tongue almost vibrating after drinking this. It’s a long-lasting tea that’s a real pleasure to drink now.

Houhou! Rainbow colored leaves; hairy silver buds, fudgy-brown khaki and grey leaves. Smell of a light flowery soap and clean clothes. It’s a very cloudy hay-yellow liquor. Super thick (almost creamy) texture that coats everything in the mouth. Light but oily taste. Very pleasant tea to drink!
