Description
Each piece in this series is made by a paper restoration expert who specializes in restoring ancient texts. Artistic, spontaneous, yet very articulate, this artist’s formal education is in paper making and restoration, but he applies his knowledge and skills to make one of a kind, experimental pieces.
The materials he uses can include, but are not limited to things like handcrafted paper, old scriptures, vintage silk, vegetable dyed and hand woven fabric, gold foil, wood, etc.
Lacquer is applied, which interacts with different textures and materials to create a new expression from ancient techniques and aesthetic. The results speak for themselves, as the pieces are not only visually beautiful, but incredibly light and tactile, making them all the more impressive.
In the case of his tea trays, they are double sided, with a wabi-sabi aesthetic. They are have a light water resistances, but make sure to dry thoroughly if they get wet, in order to avoid damage.
Each board takes approximately one month to finish, as they are treated with lacquer up to 5 times. For pieces in this series that include any text or visible characters, these come from buddhist scriptures, and in order to keep that element visible may use less layers of lacquer. However, if you are sensitive to lacquer, then we do not recommend purchasing, for obvious reasons.
Each piece is as one-of-a-kind as it gets, so please make a selection below to confirm the exact appearance.
