Dive Wood Fired Houhin

Description

These houhins/手抓壶 are about as perfect as we could ask for. Not only do they feature one of the cuter animals you can find underwater, but each one it wood fired to perfection. This multi-day firing process produces unique markings and patterns due to placement in the kiln and interaction with the smoke.

Unsurprisingly, the artist behind them is quite inventive, and with a curious mind. His studio exemplifies this, with pieces that border the experimental and the artistic. There’s a mechanical tea table, bespoke ceramic lid that he made to replace the metal one on his metal boiler, a speaker that sits in a ceramic cabinet, and many other inventions that he’s made all around the studio.

While his background in traditional ceramics provides a base, his inventive mind has led many of his designs (including this one) being patented. Aside from pleasing the eyes, this design also features hollowed out fins, allowing you can grab the body without burning your fingers when pouring.

Please note that we have been warned these pieces can craze with use. We have not tested this ourselves yet, but to avoid/minimize this effect, we recommend avoiding letting the houhin sit with excess tea on it and wiping clean after use.
