Description

This gaiwan easily falls into the category of functional art. Although it serves perfectly well as a gaiwan, this piece also employs unique and interesting colour combinations and painting styles in order to imitate the murals found in the Mogao caves in Dunhuang. As you might expect, this piece is entirely hand-formed and hand-painted in detail.

The area of Dunhuang has become an inspiration for young creators in China, sparking a bit of a cultural revival. This small town in the Gansu provine is home to Buddhist murals, sculptures, and scripts dating back thousands of years, and is somewhere worthy of any travel bucket list.

This gaiwan holds approximately 80ml of liquid and comes with a matching lid holder (pictured).
