Description
One of the more unique designs we’ve come across, these houhins are the white clay siblings of our Over the Moon Yixing zini clay teapots and houhins. Made by a Jingdezhen based artist, he developed his skills while studying teapot making in Yixing, but eventually left for Jingdezhen in order to develop his own identity and pursue less traditional designs.
These houhins are slab built and fired at a high temperature. These are considered half handmade, which means that they are hand-formed with the assistance of a mold. There is still a high level of detail finishing by hand in order to achieve the final appearance of these patented (although still heavily copied) design houhins.
By now you might be wondering how to pour this houhin without burning your fingers. The design incorporates a thicker layer of clay (hollow) where you place your fingers, so that there is an adequate buffer between your fingers and that boiling water you just poured in.
