Description

This series of teaware comes from an artist in Jingdezhen who handles each step of the creation with intention, from formulating his own clay mixture, to developing the glaze and painting the final designs.

These particular pieces can be used as a tea tray, or simply hung on the wall as art.

With his work in high demand in the Chinese market, we were fortunate to be able to pick up as many pieces as we could while in Jingdezhen this fall.

The intention with each piece is to have an organic and unique feel to it. In this spirit, no design is repeated exactly, and both the designs and pieces themselves are intended to be unique from one another.

The clay used for these pieces tends to have grains that pop out during firing – a perfect imperfection, according to the artist, as this adds to the desired uniqueness. Furthermore, the glaze will crackle and craze with use (noticeable from the first time – please see last photo for an example of one of our personal pieces), which he likens to raising a cat and getting to know its personality as it develops. He wants each piece to grow into something that can’t be replicated, just as people and animals can’t be.

Place of production: Jingdezhen
