Maximum Joy 2026 Spring Yibang Raw Puer

Price range: $4.50 through $110.00

Description

Using spring arbour material from Yibang, this tea punches well above its weight, with a persistent fragrance, smooth texture, and crisp sweetness.

This is about as solid of a daily drinker as you can come across, with no real flaws in sight. Bitterness/roughness are kept to a minimum, while pleasant florals greet you in the front, followed by a lasting huigan.

With some shared traits normally reserved for big/old tree material, this tea has no business being this good for the price, and we love it for that.

The first three steeps are very sweet, soft, clean with wild florals peeking just around the corner. Later steeps start showing a slight character, more sweetness but also slightly more wild character with some astringency and bitterness (and a touch of tropicals if I’m not mistaken, too).

What I learned with this tea is that it’s better to stay at the same steeping time after a few steeps than increase it linearly as the “noise” in the sense of taste will increase as well. The last few steeps I did push a bit, but still it was just a bit over half minute each.

The wet leaf shows a surprising palette of sweet peas and greens like spinach and kale, but it doesn’t transfer into the cup.

Very approachable young raw pu erh on the lighter side with some transformation.

i enjoyed this one quite a bit, especially considering the price point! bitterness is kept to a comfortable level with no astringency with my brewing parameters (around 90-95 degrees celsius, maybe around 20 seconds or so per steep, non increasing. 5ish grams for an 80ml gaiwan). nice floral notes and a pleasant huigan that transforms from the bitterness rather quickly, especially towards later brews

Got a cake sample of this tea. Good salinity, medium+ bitterness, slight sweetness, with a bit of a barnyard note. Rounding up to 5 stars considering the price.
