Description
A tea that has grown to be one of our favourites over the last 5 years, this Huazhuliangzi comes from a pristine left-to-grow environment just a stone’s throw from Mengsong and Naka.
As such, you can expect a well-balanced tea, with a slightly less heavy handed kuwei (pleasant bitterness), mineral sweetness, and pleasant fragrance.
This year’s tea exhibits more noticeable florals in the fragrance, with minimal roughness and a great huigan, making it a suitable entry point into the world of Mengsong region sheng.
As with several other teas we’ve offered, this one highlights the impact and importance of a clean, natural environment and offers an excellent experience for both new and experienced drinkers.

relatively similar to the mengsong plum beauty cake, but i found it to be a little more transparent in its flavours and a bit less brothy. thats not to say that its not brothy, as it still maintains an appropriate amount of bitterness thats expected of the terroir. preferred the plum beauty cake a little more, but cant complain about this tea much. nice floral tones in the scent that transfer decently into the cup, as well as a hawthorn-esque smell that i find to be generally present in menghai shengs

A favourite every year, I always look forward to Natural Habitat. A buy a cake blind and I’m always happy. This year continues that march, and I agree with the description of more floral notes this year, which are nicely balanced. I raise a cup to another great season, and hopefully many more to come.

Rich & expansive
Toasted Rice, Honeysuckle, Watermelon Bubblegum
//Aroma// – Warm hay, late season jasmine, pickled vegetables
//Texture// – Medium plus body, smooth and soft with a bit of an edge. Low astringency as the finish fades away like a perfect gradient.
//Flavor// – Echoing above description: Toasted Rice and Honeysuckle up front, though later steeps get into more savory notes (Fenugreek, Marigold, Salted Plum) Not overly complex but not one-dimensional by any means.
//Body Sensation// – Robust and satisfied. I don’t feel the same urgency that some sheng gives me but I do have a lot of forward momentum
(Got this as a sample in a recent order and will likely grab a cake)

I got a cake because I really enjoyed last year’s version. Quite floral, with some salinity. I hope this version transforms as well as the previous vintage. 4.5 stars considering the price.
