Description
The upgrade of our original Natural Habitat Huazhuliangzi, this tea builds on the beloved qualities of the original – a floral character, mineral sweetness, and balanced Mengsong character. The soup is noticeably thicker, the sweetness more pronounced, and the huigan comes through stronger and more persistent.
Using gushu material from a deeper section of the same left-to-grow land, this tea rewards your attention. The added depth and texture give it a richness that develops well across a session.
Fans of the standard Natural Habitat will find this a natural next step and a treat for special session. For those new to the area, both teas together make for an excellent comparison of what tree age can do to the same land.

I’m a long-time fan of the standard Natural Habitat cakes, so I bought a cake of this Reserve version without further consideration. Glad I did, because it’s exceptional. Session opens with toffee and caramel, shifting to mild citrus rind, and finishes with apricot. The tea evolves across infusions in layers of distinct flavours that remain balanced and separate. Everything works together and offers a lingering finish that I’m super happy with. I may be biased, but this one’s my favourite of the Top-Shelf offerings from Bitterleaf this year.
