Description
If we had to pick a desert island tea, this might be the one. With a consistently deep fragrance and floral character, it is balanced out by a pleasant bitterness that doesn’t overpower, but transforms into rounded out with sweetness that lingers in the throat.
While faint notes of plum might be detectable early on, the stone fruit character becomes much more obvious as it is stored. This tea is excellent for drinking now, but also very rewarding for those looking to store it for 5 years or more.
The material for this tea comes from ~40yr “fangyang” (放养/left to grow) trees that are not treated with pesticides, fertilizer or any other intervention outside of picking. This is hands down our preferred type of material as it often lends a richer flavour and texture, but at a more affordable level than gushu, old or sometimes dubiously labelled “wild” trees.
Picking period: Pre-April 11
$0.19/gram
All of our samples for spring 2020 are in dragon ball form. While these balls will perform the same as the cake, they can be slightly trickier to brew. Here’s how we do it:

A good and solid Raw Puer! Really like it, but I noticed there are some days when it´s just a bit too bitter for me. But one some days I really crave the bitter notes, so I´m not sad about it.

That one has some nice bitterness if you go for it (brewing with 7gr / 100ml, boiling hot water) which I really really love. It transforms beautifully and comes with a great flowery aroma that is just addictive in this combination for me.

One of my favorite Shengs from Bitterleaf so far. Complex and a great balance between bracing bitterness and a soft floral exhale and aroma. Can’t wait to see how this ages!

Im not tasting the plum like advertised but it’s a nice tea to drink. We’ll check back in a few

Thick texture and long-lasting taste. Make me think of a creamy and flowery agar pudding. The liquor has a heavy mineral effect.

Brief steeps (5-10 seconds) in 90 Celsius water.
Liquor is a clear light yellow in color.
Taste is mellow with a floral-fruity note and a sweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel slightly sticky with dryness around the lips, a hint of astringency but no bitterness.
Wet leaves are olive green in color with a yellowish hue, giving off a mild scent of sugared stone fruits.
The flavor intensity starts to mellow down by the 5th/6th infusion, thus best to do a longer steep from here onwards.
A (1 minute) steep gives a deeper golden hue to the liquor color, with a flavor that has a pronounced mild bitterness.
