Description
Revived for the first time since 2018, this pressing of Secret Garden comes from a remote and biodiverse garden that could still be considered within the greater Yiwu area. There is no substitute for this type of environment, which is why this area is known for producing teas with a bold, complex character and “wild” energy.
Classic Yiwu fragrance and sweetness is present with this tea, but a dense soup, thick mouthfeel, and nuanced fragrance that touches on floral/honey/woody notes is what separates this tea from the pack.
We may be biased by our love of this type of tea, but in our opinion, this represents one of the best value options of our 2026 lineup, delivering a high-end experience at a firmly mid-tier price. Its depth of flavour makes it enjoyable to drink now, but also a strong contender for long term ageing.

You can taste that Yiwu profile in droves, so Yiwu fans will surely be happy. Secret Garden is trying to do a lot of things at once, so I’m imagining a garden where you’re not sure what secrets to explore next… The draw from one thing to the next pulling at your attention. Overall, a solid tea with lots of expected Yiwu stuff happening, just a bit busy. Maybe one for exciting sessions over meditative ones. This secret garden is going to give itself away if it keeps holding loud parties!

Dry leaf smelled slightly funky, a bit like a sweaty polyester sports shirt. Rinsing the ball revealed some interesting notes of rich broth, with a touch of fruitiness and vines. It steeps quickly, after a second steep I noticed that the leaves are small and narrow. The mouthfeel is thick and rich, savoury vegetable stock with notes of spring squash and corn that gets additionally layered with toasted grains with the following steeps. After a few cups I’m noticing a slight minerality, saltiness and drying out of the mouth with the gripping sensation in the throat that. The feeling is similar after eating saltine crackers. This tea reminds me a bit of Element Raw, and while that one feels more hydrating, this one feels more savouring. If Bitterleaf ever decides to press this tea in a sealed form like Element series, I’d probably get a few pieces for having it while traveling.
