Description
Sitting at the northwest edge of Yibang, Daheishan reaches an altitude of around 2000m, making it the highest point in the area. The subregion is largely uninhabited and difficult to access, keeping it well-preserved and giving the tea an elusive wild forest character that distinguishes it from the more cultivated parts of Yibang.
While much of the trees in Yibang are small-leaf varietal, this material is predominantly from medium-leaf trees that are relatively uncommon for the region, which contribute to a bolder and more complex flavour.
This tea opens with a slight bitterness that quickly transforms into a crisp, clean sweetness, with a balance of floral, herbal and mineral notes carried through the session. The fragrance sits deep in the soup, rather than just in the aroma. There’s also a mild fruity quality and substantial body, delivering a thick mouthfeel, silky texture, the kind of presence expected from this kind of environment. With a strong energy/chaqi to boot, this is a powerful and well-rounded tea.
Although it would be hard to call this a budget-friendly tea, it still delivers excellent value for what’s in the cup. A strong contender for long term storage, we also highly recommend pairing this tea with our 2026 Maximum Joy Yibang to compare the impact of tree age and environment.
