Description
This vertical flight consists of 9 consecutive years of our Zodiac Yiwu raw puer. Since our initial Monkey cake, these teas have consistently been one of our most popular and stable productions, and one guaranteed to remain on the shelf as long as we do.
From the Year of the Rooster all the way through Year of the Snake, the material for these cakes has remained the same, coming from left-to-grow trees in Yiwu that are free of any pesticide, fertilizer, or weed killer, and experience minimal human intervention outside of being harvested in the spring.
This set offers a unique opportunity to compare the effects of storing the same tea at various stages over 9 years, as well as a chance to examine the unavoidable impact of each years’ weather on a tea that otherwise keeps all other variables constant.
Each set contains 9 x 10 grams portions, chipped from the cakes of our annual productions from 2017 through 2025.

To provide some extra insight, we gathered weather data from this farmer and others in Yiwu for each of year as well. This is not necessarily an indication of which years are good and bad, but rather help explain why certain years leaned one way or another:
2017: Dry, warm weather with some rain early on. Early, but good harvest.
2018: Perfect weather for tea with everything lining up. Record quantities for harvest, top quality tea.
2019: Drought conditions with high temperatures, lower harvest quantity, resulting in thinner leaves and rougher soup.
2020: Dought continued, but taste and leave bounced back as trees adapted to these conditions.
2021: Calm weather, slightly wet.
2022: Another year of perfect weather, with best quality tea out of the previous 3 years.
2023: Extreme drought, with some saying the tea had an uncharacteristic taste for the region.
2024: Still dry, but high fragrance and improved quality.
2025: A proper year weather-wise, with some rain early on to push growth and produce a solid harvest.
