Description
A blend for those with an insatiable sweet tooth, this tea combines the sugary qualities of shaihong (sun dried) Yunnan black tea with the floating fragrance of Dancong oolong. This pressing offers the best of both worlds, with a more dynamic fragrance than a typical shaihong, but additional sweetness and more resistance to bitterness than your average Dancong.
For this year’s pressing, we swapped out the Yashixiang for Milanxiang, bringing a touch of honey and orchid florals that work much better than we expected. The result is one of the most cohesive blends we’ve done right out of the gate.
Where previous versions felt more separated initially, this pressing sees the two teas already working together as a team. The creamy texture from the Dancong adds a pleasant mouthfeel that arguably makes this the best textured version that we’ve released.
As with any experimental blend, there are always adjustments to make. While the long-term aging potential is still being proven, our experience has been that the flavors tend to meld over time, forming their own identity, which is part of the fun.
A solid daily drinker, this is one we strongly recommend doubling (or tonging) up on, as the first cake might be gone before you know it.
Brewing-wise, we recommend using standard gongfu brewing parameters for this tea, however, it also performs very well when brewed grandpa/thermos style.

Great value for money. The playful blend of dancong and black tea makes for an intriguing brew — you never quite know who’s winning the battle in the next infusion. Sweet on both the nose and the palate, with milk chocolate notes and a creamy, comforting finish that keeps you going back for another sip.

4.5 stars, a pleasant blend. The milanxiang dancong provides a lovely fragrance and sweetness that elevates the black tea. A good choice for people who enjoy honey notes but do not prefer black teas with strong malty flavours. As with Night & Day 2025, I imagine this would be lovely brewed in a mug or as an iced tea.

This tea smells so good—it makes you thirsty just from the scent. There’s a calming heaviness that invites relaxation and slows down time. A perfect evening tea.
// Smell: Deliciously floral and sweet; fruit cake, a hint of salt, diluted summer fruit juice, and cooked fruits over artisanal toasted bread.
// Texture: Tingling on the palate, with a thin mouth coating and a medium body that becomes sticky after several brews.
// Taste: Invigorating fruit coulis and warm dessert bread; rusk toast biscuit with floral butter, smooth bitterness, dark and spicy honey, and buttery candy.
// Body sensation: Vanished saliva, drying effect, subtle heat, and a physical heaviness (jaw, shoulders) that leads to slower movements.

Toasty, sweet and slightly thick first steep. After few steeps Dan Cong takes over in high notes riding on the black tea background and mouthfeel. The aftertaste is on the cooling side with traces of bitterness and citrus peel. Late steeps have light mouthfeel with more cooling, fleeting sweetness and plenty of Dan Cong elements to savor on between the sips.
