90% 2007 Liubao Heicha

$4.50$65.00

Description

Made from Guangxi small leaf varietal material that has undergone a cold water fermentation, this 2007 Liubao delivers an overwhelming dark chocolate flavour and smooth texture.

The material for this tea consists of smaller pieces and broken bits of higher end Liubao, making it an excellent value for daily drinking. The mouthfeel is quite filling and there is a gentle sweetness in the flavour. As with many aged Liubao, there is also a noticeable energy/body feeling.

This tea has been stored in Guangxi since it was produced and has very minimal storage scent in the first infusion or two, making it an exceptionally clean and enjoyable heicha.

Due to the smaller size of the leaves and amount of dust in this tea, we recommend using a strainer when brewing in order to minimize leaves in your cup.

That tea doesn’t have a sexy appearance, or a sexy wet leaf aroma. However, the taste in the mouth is sweet, complex, and oh-so-satisfying. The taste has components of strawberry, wet autumn floor, incense, or liquorice, demending on the infusion. Did I mention that tea was very, very sweet?

Brewed: Grandpa Style in ~ 400 ml Cup with boiling temp and ~8 grams of tea for 2-3 min
Taste: Soil and mushrooms at the front, and sweet after taste, especially after it cools down the sweetness comes through!

Final Thoughts: Excellent tea for the price, due to complexity may benefit from smaller ml infusions to get changes over time. Nice camphor similar to ripe tea with some umami, and present sweetness at the same time.

OK tea but not my year’s favorite.
I have some weird notes for the dry and wet leaves like: old wet garage, wet dust, mushroom, dirty cave, paint and forest trails. The mouth feel was I bit strange too with practically no mouth covering and a intense dry sensation. The taste is fine. The mushrooms and the wet earth forest trail make it a very fall-like tea. Overall, this tea is not too bad, I am happy to have the chance to buy a taster.

Being Malaysian, I love a good aged liu bao. 90% is a nice change from my usual wet Malaysian storage liu bao. It still has the characteristic medicinal camphor + red dates + licorice scent and flavour, but the red date + licorice sweetness is definitely more pronounced. Drinking this is like having comfort food but with a refreshing twist.

This is the taste I was looking for in a Liubao.

Very comforting and grounding tea, kind on the stomach.

    Good value aged Liubao.

An excellent Liubao, in all respects. I didn’t find excessively small fragments or as much dust as described, so it certainly already visually exceeded my expectations. The olfactory compartment is rich and of good complexity, with notes of pinewood, dried bamboo, gentian, a mint-like hint, liquorice root and undergrowth. The sip has a good body and good thickness, it is intense and has a really excellent qi. Another tea with an objectively impressive quality-price ratio. I hope these new heicha become a stable production given their quality.
