Description
Made from Taiwanese Ruanzhi varietal material, this highly oxidized oolong sits somewhere between the oolong and black tea worlds, leaning closer to the latter in our opinion. The extended oxidation brings out deep chocolate notes alongside hints of plum, creating a profile that’s both familiar and a bit unusual.
Oolongs don’t usually get pushed this far in processing, which gives this tea a unique character that stands apart from more conventional oolongs. The result is something that drinks like a mellow black tea but maintains enough personality to keep things interesting.
An approachable tea for those who like things on the darker, maltier side, or just for anyone curious about what happens when you push oxidation to its limits.
Each bamboo wrapped mini-tong consists of 7 x 7g coins.

What an intriguing tea, both in aroma and taste. Even among Bitterleaf’s other Oolong/Hong teas, I can’t really compare or classify what I’m experiencing. This is definitely a mystery that will need more sessions in order to reveal some answers.
// Smell: Sweet floral candy, chocolate, clean clothes, indoor municipal swimming pool (!?), juicy dried plum, warm plum liqueur.
// Texture: Tingling all over the tongue, weight on the teeth, creamy texture, hot mouth-coating sensation.
// Taste: Chocolate dessert bread with floral accents, swimming pool, flowery candy, roast, caramelized ginger.
// Body sensation: Hot tongue, thick saliva, heavy cheeks, gentle heat and energy, awake mind.

Hong body wrapped in fragrant cherry. Leaves a pleasant puckering mouthfeel between the sips. It can turn sour when over steeped early on, and it performed best when I brewed it indirectly in a gaiwan and let the coin unfold on its own without agitation. Later steeps give more way to the hong character and bring out some cooling and woodiness. I got the feeling this tea will go really well in the summer.

This one is one of my favourite daily drinkers. I will definitely order more!
In the cup malty soup, with a lot of chocolaty and cocoa notes but also some nice sweet floral vibes similar to dongfang meiren in my opinion.
