Crème de la Crème 2024 Yashixiang Dancong x Shou Puer

Price range: $5.50 through $165.00

Description

A blend of 2024 spring Yashixiang (duckshit fragrance) Dancong and traditionally piled shou puer (blended, but Menghai dominant), this tea covers a lot of ground. On one end, it no shortage of intoxicating floral fragrance, thanks to the dancong. Down on the ground, the shou puer provides a settling comfort and texture. It’s a match that you need taste to believe.

The primary adjustment we made this time around was a swap of shou, which allows this tea to not only maintain an excellent texture, but also helps it come in at a lower price point than our previous pressings. If anything, this time around the tea has an even creamier quality to it, which may be aided by a good year for the dancong.

This is a blend that settles over time, which is why we recommend drinking it fresh and with some storage under its belt. This allows you to compare the tea when the separation of flavours is fresh, and again as they meld into one, more unified being. Both are enjoyable states.

This is my favorite blend so far, I am still new to tea so I am still discovering what I like, but this blend was very nice for me. It is deep and rich in flavor, but not too overwhelming for me. I tried the 25g first before immediately getting a cake. 5 out of 5 for me!

Get me thirsty for more. Well-balanced and pleasant to drink, with a warm and fruity liquor. You’ll get familiar with it without even noticing. So natural.

// Smell: Creamy, Dancong floralness at first glance, scented spring wind, warm tropical fruits.
// Texture: Medium body, teeth coated with a cool, thickening effect.
// Taste: Mineral, like a tropical fruit cold brew (with a bit of soil on them?), pineapple sharpness on the tip of the tongue, then sweeeet!
// Body sensation: Heartbeat strongly resonating across the chest, warm coziness, building energy.

An interesting experiment for sure! However, for me, the aromas of the two teas “clash” too much—the fruity aromas from the dancong + earthy aromas from the shu puer trigger a sort of overripe or even slightly rotten fruit smell in my brain. Mouthfeel is very nice and thick and flavor is nice, but I can’t quite get over that earthy fruit aroma.

The two components of this blend can be distinguished clearly – fragrant yashixiang dancong and earthy shou puer. Whether this is your cup of tea is probably quite subjective. Not my favourite, but I am glad to have tried it. Will be putting this away to see whether the flavours will harmonise with age.
