Description
Milan Xiang, literally “honey orchid fragrance,” is one of the most popular Dancong varietals for good reason, and this is a fantastic example of a quality Milan. This year’s version is differentiated by a “野放/wild grown” distinction, making it unique to previous years’ tea. This is not the same as truly wild tea, but it means that these bushes were left to develop with minimal intervention over the last century.
The fragrance hits you immediately, even before taking a sip. Once it enters the mouth, the soup is packed with honey sweetness, which takes the stage here. Some pleasant florals intertwine nicely behind it.
The first few brews are genuinely unique compared to a typical Milan. The fragrance is unmistakably Milanxiang, but in the mouth it goes somewhere of its own. By the third brew the trademark Milan qualities really come through and settle into more familiar territory.
For those well-versed in the ways of this popular varietal, this is a tea worth sitting with to feel how the wild grown character reshapes something you thought you already knew.
Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin.
