Roar 2025 Spring Jiachang Dancong Oolong

Price range: $15.00 through $225.00

Description

Grown at high altitude and in limited quantity in a village behind Shitou Jiao, this varietal is considered a sub-cultivar of Huangzhixiang (also known as 狮头黄枝香). As such, it shares a common base in terms of gardenia-floral fragrance, fruit sweetness and great mouth feel.

This terroir-specific varietal stands out in more ways than one. The initial steeps yield a bright pink rinse and first brew. Not only a treat for the eyes, this tea’s fragrance also offers a slight woody quality in the front, while a lychee sweetness takes over in the back. The texture is elastic and fills the mouth, as any charcoal roasted, high mountain tea should.

A rare and uncommon varietal, this tea is a treat for any dancong lover.

Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin.

My favorite of the top shelf rainbow dancong set.

Brewed ~ 7g with 150 ml 205F water for 15 seconds, then adding 5 seconds each infusion.

Mildly sweet, orange blossom aroma. Flavor is floral but not as intense as some dancongs, followed by honey sweetness and mild lingering very pleasant bitterness with a creamy aspect to the flavor throughout. Slight cooling sensation, significant cha qi feeling. I really love the buttery mouthfeel.

Why does pink liquor always feel so special? A reward tea for big moments. It brings lightness to the mind.
// Smell: Glorious aroma even with the lid closed, tropical fruit punch, floral, memorable, grilled pineapple
// Texture: Sticky texture, warm spot on the palate, silky, coated cheeks
// Taste: Roasted flowers, the sharpness of raw kiwi, broiled tropical fruits with maple syrup
// Body sensation: Slow-reacting eyes, light mind, gentle warmth

Intensely fragrant yet elegant, with notes of blossom, honey, and ripe lychee. The sweetness is stronger on the nose than on the palate, yet it remains entertaining taste-wise. As the steep progresses, the sweetness develops into a thinner, sweetened peach oolong flavour, with strong minerality throughout. A green bitterness appears when pushed, but remains balanced overall.
