Description
This huangzhixiang leans sweet and heavily floral, with a pleasant, well-rounded fragrance. It’s notably less fruity than some of the versions we’ve previously carried, so if you’ve come for some of the fruity notes from this varietal, this one takes a different path.
Where this tea really stands out is the soup. It’s fairly bold and has a depth that’s the clear highlight. The soup sticks in the throat, with a long-lasting huigan and aftertaste, developing into a slight cooling sensation. When we make our dancong selections, we try to pick teas that showcase something unique, and in this case it’s all about body and soup. If you’re still trying to get a handle on 喉韵 (houyun/throat feel), this is a prime example.
Overall this is a very well-rounded and satisfying dancong that rewards your attention.
Please note that the 250g size does not include a tin.

We recommend brewing this tea using Chaozhou style gongfu brewing. Here’s how it’s done:

Lovely, accessible, easy.
//Aroma// – Hay, cherry pits, orchid
//Texture// – Medium body with a little bit of creaminess in all directions on the tongue.
//Flavor// – Honey, perfectly baked pastry, with peach and some baking spaces coming in later steeps. I’d describe this as classic, textbook Dancong flavor profile. Not particularly complex or evolving but so straightforward and delightful.
//Body Sensation// – Relaxed energy. A very calm, warm sustained presence throughout the day.
I feel like this tea is 100% as described. Not necessarily what I want most out of a Dancong (which is why it isn’t getting a 5) but so clean and beautifully curated.

I just really like this tea, easy to brew, as in can’t really overbrew and is very rewarding in fragrance, mouthfeel en taste, what more can I wish for?! Looking forward to the next cup!

Brewing: 4 g in a 60 ml gaiwan, 212°F water. Flash steeps to start, gradually increasing steep time by about 5 seconds as needed, adjusting shorter or longer depending on whether the tea becomes too bitter or too weak.
Clean, light sweetness with a strong floral character. I get an almost clean-linen impression – fresh and airy, with a soft floral sweetness. Got a good 6 steeps. Solid daily drinker and beginner friendly dancong.

Simple and warm – For sure, it’s an easy drinker. It’s unfortunate that the tongue becomes worn and rough.
// Smell: Luminous floral notes, juicy peach, pastry-like orange blossom, natural grocery store, citrusy cream, peach-and-orange diluted juice.
// Texture: Thick and sticky texture, cold tingling on the palate, heavy cheeks.
// Taste: Minerality, dry end-of-season florals, diluted tropical juice, sweet cream, fine pastry, homemade cleaning product, warm spice.
// Body sensation: Rough tongue and palate, calm energy, strong heat, tired eyes, silence, heavy forehead.
