Description

One of two traditionally processed and smoked Zhengshan Xiaozhong (aka “Lapsong Souchong”) teas on offer this year, this version uses old bush material from 50+ year old bushes that are largely untended in the Tongmuguan nature reserve. This area is now a protected heritage site, with over 400 years of tea producing history. Similarly, the pine used for smoking this tea is stored Masson pine, also now banned from logging or importing into the Tongmu area.

Similar to the younger-bush version, this tea possesses both floral and fruity qualities that work well together, a hallmark of these Wuyi black teas.

When it comes to the smoky side of things, this tea is on another level. The smokiness seamlessly integrates with the fragrance, flavour and body of this tea, embedding itself in the soup without being harsh or abrasive at all. This makes for an extremely elegant and refined experience.

Texture-wise, the old bush material used for this tea shines, with a full mouthfeel and smooth soup.

This is a tea we have been enjoying privately for a few years now, so it’s a pleasure to finally make a limited amount available to share.
